With Christmas and New Years right around the corner, we’re all being invited to tons of holiday parties, right?! I mean practically everyone I know is either throwing a party or attending a party in the days ahead. The holidays are filled with celebrations both big and small, but it’s not all fun and games…at least not for everyone, especially those battling addiction.

This time of year can be extremely stressful for many. Think about it, not everyone will be having a  ’Merry’ Christmas. I personally know quite a few people that are struggling right now, for one reason or another. I have friends that have just lost loved ones, others are ill themselves. Some folks don’t have anyone to spend the holidays with, they’ll be spending them all alone. Others are struggling to make ends meet, and the pressure of buying gifts for their families can be daunting. Many are depressed.

Now add alcohol into the equation, and you’ve got yourself a very volatile mix. Holiday functions are notorious for getting out of hand; we’ve all heard the story of the guy that drank too much at the company party, right?! People drink for many different reasons. During the holidays, some are trying to escape their current situations, drown their sorrows, numb the pain. What if there were other options? Maybe, just maybe, instead of reaching for the alcohol to toast with-they’d reach for the mocktail.

Do you know a recovering alcoholic? Chances are, you probably do. Holiday gatherings can be a time of great concern for an alcoholic and his or her family. The temptation to drink is very real. My friends over at Inspire Malibu Rehab treat people with addiction every day, and they have some great mocktail recipes on their website. Here’s one that I want to make:

Mistletoe and Frost Bite Mocktail

Mistletoe and Frost Bite Mocktail

  • 2 ounces white grape juice
  • 1 ounce pineapple juice
  • 1 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
  • Fresh blueberries
  • Fresh mint
  • 3 ounces Sierra Mist Natural

Directions:
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add white grape juice, pineapple juice, limejuice, blueberries and mint. Shake well and strain into a large glass filled with ice. Then top with Sierra Mist natural and garnish with fresh blueberries.

Doesn’t that sound delicious? It looks great too. This holiday season, please consider non-alcoholic options for your guests. You can find more mocktail recipes on Inspire Malibu’s website.

If you or someone you know is struggling with an alcohol or drug addiction, please contact Inspire Malibu via their website or call them at 877-841-0214.
